How we check the figures
Every number on Hivly can be traced to a document published by the authority that sets it, with the date we last checked it.
Where figures come from
We use primary sources: the tariff, law, decree, cabinet resolution, circular or official guidance published by the body that sets the figure. In practice that means the authority’s own website, its published tariff documents, the UAE Legislation portal or the official gazette.
News reports, forums, other calculator sites and AI tools are never a source for a figure. We may use them to learn that something has changed, and then go to the primary source to confirm it. If we cannot find a primary source for a number, the number does not go into a calculator. The page says what is missing instead of guessing.
How a figure is recorded
Each set of figures lives in a dataset file that records:
- the figures themselves, with their units (fils per kWh, dirhams per month, days per year);
- the source documents, with title, publisher, link and the date we opened them;
- the date the figures take effect, where the source states one;
- notes on anything ambiguous, such as two official pages that disagree;
- a change log of every update.
Calculators read their figures from these files, so the number on the page, the number in the calculator and the number in the sources box are always the same.
How calculators are tested
The arithmetic of each calculator is written as plain code with automated tests. Where an authority publishes a worked example, such as a sample bill or a gratuity example, the test reproduces it to the fils. Edge cases are tested too: zero use, a month that crosses a slab boundary, the first and last day of a contract period.
Dates
Every tool page shows the date its figures were last checked against the source. Each source in the sources box shows the date we accessed it. A page whose figures have not been checked recently is reviewed before it is promoted or linked from new pages.
Corrections
If you find a mistake or a change we have missed, write to hello@hivly.net with a link to the source. We check the report against the primary source. If it is right, we correct the page, the calculator and the dataset together, and add a dated entry to the page’s change log saying what changed. We do not quietly edit figures.
English and Arabic
The English and Arabic versions of a page carry the same figures, the same sources and the same dates. The Arabic is written in Modern Standard Arabic as used by UAE authorities and press, not machine-translated word for word, and uses the terms people search for.
Independence
Hivly is not paid by, and has no arrangement with, any authority or company whose figures it explains. The site is funded by display advertising from Google AdSense. Advertisers do not choose topics, see pages before publication or influence content, and we do not publish sponsored articles.
Who checks
Syed Shehzad Gillani, who runs Hivly, reviews each page and its figures against the sources before it is published or updated. He is a software developer, not a lawyer or accountant, which is why the site sticks to published figures and their arithmetic and does not give advice on individual cases.
