Privacy policy

The calculators run in your browser and we have no accounts. Most of this page is about advertising, because that is where cookies come in.

This policy covers hivly.net in English and Arabic. Hivly is run by Syed Shehzad Gillani in the United Arab Emirates. Questions about it go to hello@hivly.net.

What we collect

What you type into a calculator stays on your device. The calculations run in your browser. The figures you enter are not sent to us or stored by us.

We have no accounts, sign-ups or newsletters, so we hold no profile of you.

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it to reply and, if your message leads to a correction, to keep a record of what changed and why. We do not add you to any list, and we delete messages on request.

Server logs. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do not use these logs to identify visitors.

Analytics. We do not currently run an analytics service. If we add one, we will update this page before it goes live and say what it measures.

Advertising and cookies

Hivly is paid for by ads served by Google AdSense.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie set on the doubleclick.net domain, enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • Google and other ad partners may also place and read cookies in your browser, or use web beacons and your IP address, to collect information when an ad is served, measured or checked for fraud. Hivly does not see or receive this information.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
  • If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will be less related to your interests.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, a consent message from a Google-certified consent management platform asks for your choice before personalised ads or the cookies that support them are used. You can change your choice at any time from the link the message provides. If you do not consent, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for purposes such as frequency capping and fraud prevention.

Blocking cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The calculators and articles work without them.

Where data goes and how long it is kept

Google (advertising) and Cloudflare (hosting) process data on servers outside the UAE, including in the United States and the EU, under their own privacy terms and safeguards. Emails to hello@hivly.net are kept only as long as we need them to reply and to keep the record of a correction, and are deleted sooner if you ask. We do not sell personal data.

Your rights

You can ask what personal data we hold about you (in practice, only emails you have sent), ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to hello@hivly.net. We reply within one month. We aim to handle personal data in line with the UAE’s Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data and, for visitors from the EEA and UK, the GDPR. For data that Google collects through ads, use the Ads Settings link above or Google’s own privacy tools.

Children

Hivly is a reference for household costs and is not directed at children under 13 (under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Pages link to authorities and other sites, mostly to cite sources. Their privacy practices are their own.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, we update the date in the margin and, for significant changes, note it on this page.
